Heidi McKinnon is Director of Programs and Community Outreach at the Sandy Spring Museum, where she works to reshape the demographics of the museum's audience and create a more inclusive agenda of exhibitions and cross-cultural educational experiences and public programs. She is also Executive Director of Curators Without Borders, an international NGO that designs exhibitions and educational programming for international development projects and underserved communities in conjunction with museum partners, government agencies and NGO partners. Ms. McKinnon’s career has focused on historical memory, human rights and indigenous communities in the Americas, to which she brings over a decade of experience developing collaborative museum exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
