I teach gender and women's studies at UMBC, and I teach with a political geographical approach. That means I center local history in my teaching and ask students to learn about where they are and why their "place" looks like it does. We use history to figure that out. I also ride my bike all over Baltimore and try to figure out how this city got to look the way it does.
